Coinbase just dropped the news every Sui holder in New York has been waiting for: SUI is now fully tradable for New York residents on coinbase.com and the iOS/Android apps.
That means NY users can finally buy, sell, convert, send, receive, and store SUI directly on the platform – no more watching from the sidelines while the rest of the country trades.
For anyone who’s been in crypto longer than five minutes, you know New York isn’t just another state. The NYDFS BitLicense regime is notoriously tough. Plenty of tokens never make it onto major exchanges for NY residents, even years after launch. So when Coinbase announces a new asset is compliant and available there, it’s a genuine stamp of legitimacy and a major regulatory victory.
This isn’t just a “feel-good” moment – it’s practical. New York has a huge concentration of crypto-native users, institutions, and capital that have been locked out of easy SUI exposure. Now that gate is open. Expect more on-chain activity, higher spot volume, and increased liquidity as NY money flows in.
And yes – this is especially bullish for the Sui memecoin scene.
Sui’s parallel processing and sub-second finality with tiny fees have already made it one of the hottest chains for memecoin launches in 2025. Projects like Blub, Hippo, Fud, Axol, and a wave of new launches have been pulling serious volume. But a big chunk of US retail (especially East Coast degens) couldn’t easily buy the base asset $SUI on the most trusted exchange.
Now they can.
One-click onboarding from Coinbase → wallet → Sui dApps is about to get a lot smoother for thousands of new users. We’ve seen this movie before on Solana and Base: easier base-asset access = rocket fuel for the memecoin meta on that chain.
The timing couldn’t be better. Sui has been consistently climbing the TVL and daily active user rankings all year, and the memecoin sector on the chain is still in early innings compared to its peers.
Bottom line: this Coinbase NY listing removes one of the last big friction points for mainstream adoption of Sui. More users → more liquidity → more hype → more memes.
New York degens, your bags just got a little heavier.
