Meteora, the popular Solana-based DeFi platform, is gearing up for its MET token launch, and they've just dropped some key details on how they're rewarding their community. In a recent thread on X (formerly Twitter) by @0xmiir, they break down the 2% allocation set aside for off-chain contributors. If you're part of the Meteora ecosystem or the LP Army, this is worth paying attention to—it's all about recognizing those who've helped build the project beyond just on-chain activities.
Let's start with the why behind this allocation. Off-chain contributors are the folks driving growth through things like education, community building, and content creation. Unlike on-chain actions, which are easier to track via blockchain data, off-chain efforts require a bit more digging. Meteora's team wanted to cast a wide net to include as many people as possible, so they used two main ways to identify eligible participants.
First, there were open contribution forms where anyone could submit evidence of their work supporting Meteora or the LP Army. This could be anything from creating educational content to organizing community events. Second, they looked at recognized Discord roles: the 'LP Army' role in the Meteora Discord and the 'S1 Contributor Role' in the LP Army server. These roles, managed by the community, highlight consistent contributors—like those earning ranks such as Cadet or Sergeant based on activity.
The evaluation process for these forms focused on two big factors: impactfulness (how much did your work boost Meteora's growth?) and consistency (were you active throughout Season 1?). Based on this, allocations are tiered, meaning higher-impact contributors get a bigger slice. Importantly, the points system for 2024 and 2025 remains linear, but off-chain rewards are stepped to reflect varying levels of contribution.
Contributors fall into three groups:
- Those with roles but no form submission: You'll still get something, but at the lowest tier.
- No roles but submitted a form: Evaluated purely on your submission.
- Both roles and a form: Your overall contributions get a holistic review, often leading to higher tiers.
One key point @0xmiir emphasized is that there's no fixed weighting for specific roles. Why? Because roles might have been awarded inconsistently—some for one-time efforts, others for ongoing work, and a few dedicated folks might have slipped through without one. To keep it fair, everything's assessed together.
Now, about that 2% figure: It's not being reduced, but not all of it drops at the token generation event (TGE). After reviewing thousands of forms and filtering down to over 1,200 eligible contributors, about 1.4% will be distributed at launch. The remaining 0.6% stays in reserve for future opportunities, likely benefiting the same community.
This approach shows Meteora's commitment to fairness and long-term growth. The LP Army has been instrumental in getting the project to this point, and by blending forms with community-vetted roles, they're ensuring broad recognition. If you're involved, keep an eye out for the token checker to see your allocation.
